WASIMA makes a memorable 2018! Most visitors sought lions during their game drives into the Katavi National Park. Your support made a difference in western Tanzania.

We are now expanding into new areas where lion killing persists, and the WASIMA campaign has contributed to the establishment of a registered community based organization which is growing in institutional capacity. Good example of a well supported small campaign flourish into something much bigger. Thanks to our original supporters!

The bylaws strategy is proving powerful https://academic.oup.com/bioscience/article/69/12/1008/5606896?login=true WASIMA extends now across a wider reach of western Tanzania, and LCMO (the parent institution) is receiving broader institutional support from MaliAsili, so the help you all gave to the seeds of this campaign has really flourished. Thanks as ever

Thanks. Also you'll see the results of our evaluation here https://academic.oup.com/bioscience/article/69/12/1008/5606896?login=true Remarkably successful in changing local norms, but there are new areas to expand into now, as lion killing has not gone away at the national level

Jonathan posted this, though for some reason it came as a lab note from me! Importantly though Jonathan has been selected for a National Geographic Early Career Grant. Congratulations, and Kudos to WASIMA and LCMO

Its so impressive that our campaign have continued in Mpimbwe, southern and started in the northern side of the park. With support from Rufford Small Grant in 2017 and Crowder Messersmith grants (2018) we have now managed to explore other areas where lion killing is still happening in western Tanzania. Our findings are now going to be worked out by National Geographic grant to expand operations around Ugalla ecosystem, Rukwa-Katavi and Mahale ecosystem and respective corridors. We are so excited for the new year 2019. With expansion efforts we believe lion hunting and lion dancing traditional practices stop. Our presence, our hope for the vulnerable lions.
