Haven't created any projects yet!

Nice, Dr Kaufman! I am very glad to hear the project progress and that NTNC has a genetics lab now. By the way, what archived samples are there? I thought Nepal does not allow to ship its samples of wild flora and fauna outside of Nepal, unless that is cDNA.

I am glad that it is fully funded! Good luck, Dr Kaufman. Let me know if you need any help in Nepal or in the US.

Thank you Philip for asking why two pathogens and why not more. It is because, we would like to start with an achievable project, and we are not sure how much support we will get so with the pleadged amount it will be sufficient for travelling and testing these two pathogens, which are reported in other livestock species in Nepal and in bordering areas of China. Once we have samples and after assaying with parts of the sample, rest of the samples will be stored in freezer for future investigations if we get more funding.

Is the yak related to the buffalo? The water buffalo, or Asian buffalo, as it is often called, is the largest member of the Bovini tribe, which includes yak, bison, African buffalo, various species of wild cattle, and others. (animals national geographic)

What kind of an animal is a yak? The yak (Bos grunniens and Bos mutus) is a long-haired bovid found throughout the Himalaya region of south Central Asia, the Tibetan Plateau and as far north as Mongolia and Russia. Most yaks are domesticated Bos grunniens. There is also a small, vulnerable population of wild yaks, Bos mutus. (Wiki)
