Hands-on learning is particularly important in the sciences. Most scientists can point to a single experience that was a turning point in their lives where they fell in love with science and decided that it would be their career path. Making sure those experiences are equitably distributed is critical for fostering diversity in the sciences.

Can more practical, rather than theoretical teaching of STEM subjects improve student participation and performance?

FreeGenes has not distributed DNA in quite awhile. When you go to their website and try to order they say that they are not fulfilling orders. I do not know if this is permanent or temporary. What we intend to do at BwoB with this project is move the FreeGenes collection into expression vectors and also try out production protocols for the enzymes.
