This is a PTT solar-powered transmitter made by Microwave Telemetry. It only weighs a few grams. Birds carry them like tiny backpacks.
One of the main challenges is the polar night. If the birds stay in the High Arctic for most of the winter, in December-January there will be hardly any sunlight to charge the transmitters. We'll see how it works out.
Analyzing data is pretty straightforward, and most of it will be completely new.
This project has not yet shared any protocols.
