- Gül A. RussellBackerI have been involved with this project through my student, Jillian King in my research seminar last Speing. Her project was to help design the exhibit (on the ship in Galveston) by applying perceptual principles to enhance viewer interaction, and to ensure the representation of information wiwthin a proper histroical context. As historian of science/medicine, with a specific interest in the 17th c., I thought the research provided a novel perspective worth pursuing. We had a lot of fun.Sep 29, 20171
- Grace TsaiResearcherThank you for the lovely comment. Jillian was a pleasure to work with and an integral part of our team--thanks for all your support and guidance!Oct 01, 20170
- Grace TsaiResearcherMany have asked how our food items are faring on Elissa given Hurricane Harvey's wake. We have covered the food items on shore with a tarp and secured them a few days earlier in preparation, but as the museum has been closed since Thursday evening, we cannot be sure what their status is. The weather, unfortunately, also puts our sample retrieval dates for the lab analysis several days behind schedule and will modify the original dates we had planned to remove the food items. Thankfully, we already have data from the first 2 rounds of samples taken, which have grown some interesting microbes we will report on soon. Although unfortunate, this weather does add an unexpected element of accuracy to our project as Warwick, the ship we are basing our food items off of, sank in 1619 after a 3-day hurricane off the coast of Bermuda. Thanks for caring and following our project! We hope all our friends and supporters along the Texas coast are safe.Aug 27, 20170
