A great day for Crocodiles!

I had the privilege of spending the morning talking with fellow scientists, kids and media about the new croc exhibit @AMNH "Crocs: Ancient Predators in a Modern World". So much excitement around this topic and a really fun panel discussion. It was an excellent opportunity to share amazing facts about crocodilians and what they are really like. No. There aren't crocodiles and alligators living in the NYC sewers. But.. unfortunately, they are still sold in the pet trade and sometimes released into urban environments accidentally or intentionally by pet owners who didn't plan very well!

About This Project

Why did alchemists hang crocodiles from the ceilings of their shops? Why did ancient Egyptians worship crocodiles? We noticed that crocodiles can recover from extreme injury.. What is the source of this resilience? New studies suggest that crocodiles have a unique ability to fight infection. Become a backer and help us sequence genes of crocodiles and discover the source of the myth of the Apothecary Crocodiles. There's a good chance we'll find some new tools in the fight against human diseases.

Blast off!
