Thank You!

I am honored to say I have made my goal amount in funding for my research. I couldn't have done it without all of you. I would like to say thank you for all your support and generous donations.

Stafford field study site, releasing gopher tortoise back to burrow for week to gather data

Now that I have received the funding to preform the rest of my research, I am now putting it in full force. I have purchased and received my transmitters and data loggers. I was able to release first gopher tortoise with equipment attached this morning.

This tortoise is a male, he is a subadult which means he is around the age of 5 to 15 years old.

About This Project

An unstudied population of Gopher tortoises, a Threatened species, exists on Cumberland Island, Georgia USA. In the summer of 2016, I conducted a pilot survey on one large population on the Island. In 2017, the goal is to survey the remaining Island to determine the total population size & characteristics. Information on this keystone species must be known in order to effectively manage conservation areas vs. human use areas on the Island.

Blast off!
