I think both Humanure (it really is part of the future) and plant-only-input farming can achieve the highest impacts on the academic/research side by being viewed as two different aspects of making our food system more closed loop. I don't believe the practices are mutually exclusive in anyway and I think they both deserve strong attention. And if viewed too closely together could harm each other in some circumstances I believe.

I would personally define humanure as vegan, however for this research to have the strongest impact and reach I think we should avoid using humanure in the research to further drive home the non-animal input model. If we accept humanure it becomes a very slippery slope. If the door is opened, it becomes very difficult to close it to sanctuaries animals, etc. I believe we want the data as straight as we can get it.
