Hi Philip, First off, I want to make it clear that none of our birds will starve - the birds in the low food, low antioxidant groups are just kept in the same condition as when we caught them - a maintenance group - as opposed to the birds in the lots of food, and dietary antioxidant groups that get super fat before we release them. So, no need for rescue. The idea is that the birds in the maintenance groups will have to stick around Block Island for longer before they leave, since they will need more time to refuel to on local fruits before continuing migration. We are trying to see if their condition could influence their behavioral decisions (such as how long they spend on stopover, or which direction they depart) during migration. Hope this answers your question!! Cheers, Clara
