Bats, or mammals of the order Chiroptera, are the only mammals capable of true and sustained flight. Chiroptera also make up the second largest order of mammals, right after rodents. Some eat insects, some fruit, and a few species even eat fish or feed on blood.

About This Grant

This request for experiments is seeking proposals from all researchers studying bats. We're looking for proposals related to but not limited to the following topics are invited to apply: species evolution, anatomy and biomechanics, echolocation and senses, disease transmission, behavior, conservation, and bats in human culture.

How It Works

Challenge grants are sponsored prizes. We will accept proposals for campaigns related to bats, and all the campaigns will launch together on October 5th, 2016. The project that ends with the highest number of backers will receive an additional $500 towards its campaign. There are two runners-up prizes of $200 each.
