Hi Christopher, happy New Year to you too. A very good question. So far there is not much direct evidence for orgasm having impact on fertility, but for us this is still an open question as it is not quite clear that the question has been investigated sufficiently. There would be reason why one would think there might be effects. For example, copulation in mice is not necessary for ovulation, but it is necessary for implantation, so one possibility would be that the effect on implantation would ancestrally have been one of the effects. Also, there is some evidence that sex, in contrast to what is often recommended, actually positively affects the outcome of IVF. However we do not know whether these effects are associated with female orgasm or some other effect of sex.... So- yes, understanding the mechanism better could have a number of positive effects!

Hi all and happy New Year! ...a random thought, but will there be the possibility to evolve this research in the future to a point where fertility / successful conception can be linked (a causal link of some sort) to female orgasms (as in, are females more fertile when they orgasm more / at all, than if not?). Sorry for the off the wall input, but the idea popped into mind when reading an article about couples struggling to conceive, maybe there is a distant link to be found there too. Now, that would be something interesting and useful for many people to know if so! =)

Thank you Ron! It would be great if someone would do more on baculum as well, you two with Scot should think about it and resubmit that preproposal! :-) M

Congratulations to Mihaela and Gunter! I notice that Scott didn't report on the outcome of his proposal regarding the experience of orgasm. How did it work out, Scott? I thought maybe your research on the baculum might have been a part of that research. Maybe if males could reverse-evolve a baculum ...

Dear Ron, I think you hit the bacculum on the head, that would be a great advance in medical sciences and the advancement of maleness!

Good luck! Years ago I sent a phony pre-proposal to a friend on the Templeton "Ultimate Reality Grant" committee, saying that the only time one experienced ultimate reality was during and immediately before orgasmic climax, and I wanted funding to find how to prolong those moments long enough to report on them.

Thank you for your generous support. LOL, I guess you did not get the funding from the JTF. If you had the time to read our project description, I hope you found that we want to do some real biology, but I was still pessimistic to ask any kind of foundation for this! All the best, Gunter
