Methods
Summary
The goal for the ZILLION project is to build a better model for inflammatory bowel disease. Different from the current animal models and clinical data measuring accumulative gut damages, we want a model that can track the inflammation, infection and host cell response in a real-time manner. The methods can be divided into three sections:
1. Building Dextran Sulfate Sodium induced intestinal injury
2. Setup and comparing fish gut pathology with Hematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) Staining
3. Investigating the interplay between intestinal innate immune cells (Ex. macrophages), epithelia (goblet cells) and microbiota (E. coli).
Challenges
The major challenge is to compare our zebrafish intestinal injury model to human IBD pathogenesis.
